Coronado Village is one of our favorite RV parks. It is located in north Albuquerque, NM, close to I-25 and Paseo Del Norte Blvd NE. Although the park is very close to the freeway, it is so large (350 spaces) that you might not hear any freeway noise.
Our favorite feature of Coronado Village is its 7-acre grassy park in the southeast corner of the RV park. Depending on the season and weather, you may encounter a carpet of beautiful yellow dandelion blooms, a snow-dusted winter wonderland, or a treed greenbelt.
We stayed there twice: once in May 2023, when spring had just sprung, and again in October 2023 for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Spring is such a lovely time in the park. The greenbelt is covered with gorgeous yellow dandelion flowers and their seed heads, and the mulberry trees are sprouting new growth and dropping pollen everywhere. The weather is just beginning to get hot, but it’s not too hot yet. The weather in October can be pretty cool, but it hasn’t turned bitter cold yet.
There isn’t anything within walking distance unless you want to walk a mile or two, but our two dogs love their walks on the greenbelt. I’ll post drone footage of the dogs and us exploring the greenbelt as soon as possible.
I’ve always wanted a dog, but since I’ve lived in apartments most of my life, I wasn’t able walk a dog as required, so I opted to wait. When we moved into the RV, I knew that I would be able walk a dog as much as they needed.
We adopted Penny Lane from Sparky & The Gang in Long Beach, CA in July 2020. She had been living on the streets of Long Beach and in bad shape when we adopted her. At first, she was very skittish; she didn’t trust people, other dogs, and didn’t like loud noises.
When we got her from Sparky & The Gang, they placed her in my lap and she didn’t move for the next 30 minutes while I petted her. At that point, she and I both knew she had found her forever home.
Over the next year or so, she gradually began to trust people and other dogs, but she still doesn’t like rain or thunder. At least she gets snuggles during a storm. Today, she will walk up to anyone as if she’s saying, “You got any treats? You need to pet me!”
Her favorite thing is this world is to get tummy rubs from her Daddy, Martin. Once you start, she demands that you do not stop!
I’m her Papa.
Little Bit
I inherited Little Bit from my brother, who passed away a few years ago. She is a Malta-Chi-Hava-Wheeny-Peka-Poo-Pug-gle, but she’s mainly a Maltese. When we got her, she hadn’t been house-trained, had never been walked, barked at anything that moved but afraid of everything, and hadn’t recently been to the vet. No one had ever shown her what is expected of her. She didn’t really know how to be a dog.
It’s taken a long time, but today she is doing really great. She no longer barks at everything unless she’s really happy and excited. She loves her leased walks with her sister, Penny Lane. She’s still afraid of her own shadow or a leaf blowing in the wind, but it’s getting better. Recently, she’s started walking in front of me as long as we’re on a walking trail. She’s got to know I’m there all of the time. She’s not that fond of Lucy Fur but they do get along.
Lucy (AKA Lucy Fur)
I blame our friends, Tammy and Barb. Actually, it’s Tammy’s fault. She manipulated me to take this kitten she found at one of her worksites. The site was not safe and the kitten was going to get hurt or worse. Over the course of a week, Tammy talks about the cat and that she’s trying to find a home for it, but never asks me directly if we will take it.
Well, she finally wears me down and I tell her we’ll take it if Martin want to. Call me a sucker!
Lucy’s full name is “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” but I call her “Lucy Fur” because the name really fits. She’s an inside only cat and very playful but she likes to use her teeth and claws. As a result, I’ve been scratched too many times to count. She’s never vicious just a little too rough. Penny and Little Bit are a little weary of her but they both tolerate her (as if they have a choice!) I’m constantly threatening to let her outside and never let her back in, but Martin would never forgive me, so we’re stuck with the Monster.
